According to this article, re-watching our favourite TV shows is good for us - increases our willpower and gives our brains a boost. I love it! How fabulous is it when clever people prove that our time-sucking hobbies are actually good for us!

The best quotes:

"Writing about their favorite television show restored their energy levels and allowed them to perform better on a difficult puzzle." Cool. Even my fanfiction/review writing time now has a purpose!

"In fact, the effects of this fictional “social surrogacy” may work better than actual social interaction with real people under some circumstances." So it's good that we have our imaginary friends around.

“Favorite television shows can actually increase people’s prosocial behavior. Specifically, after thinking about a favorite television show, people are more willing to forgive others, are more willing to help a stranger, and are more willing to sacrifice for their romantic partner.” Awww, sweet - so re-watching TV shows makes us all better people! Good to know!

Aw, that's cool. Thanks for the link and particularly the nice quotes. It's good to have something positive about fannishness, instead of all the usual cliched stuff that the media run when they're bored. :-)

I'm especially pleased, because feeling rather tired I just rewatched two eps of S&S with Silver in. And apparently I am now a better person for it! Even more so if I write about, which I undoubtedly will.

*is appropriately smug*

This explains why rewatching Buffy is basically the only thing saving my sanity at the moment!

That bad, huh? It's good to have validation, though, right?

Oh nothing major, just a bit of a struggle at the moment, our tiny house is a bit full at the moment, my a lot of space.

Man, that's precious! I should print that out and carry it around with me, so everytime someone points out to me that obsessing over a TV show, spending hours on writing reviews or weeks on marathoning old favourites is unhealthy and asocial, I can just give them that article to read. *g*

And my brain doesn't half need some improvement, so thank goodness for that!

Ah, but it isn't scientifically verifiable until someone does a study! *G*

Heh, I saw a mention of that study too in the free paper they hand out at the Metro--I saved the page and meant to share it on BF, lol! Now this is my kind of study...:D
