As far as I know, an 8th series was commissioned but probably won't air until the autumn, rather than in the summer - it was pushed back in the schedule last year as well, iirc. Not sure why, although I know Alun Armstrong, at least, has had a pretty hectic filming schedule the last couple of years, fitting in two seasons of Garrow's Law and the one-off drama A Passionate Woman as well as his regular commitment to New Tricks.
