I'll be thinking of you and your family tomorrow. It's a ghastly thing for anyone to have to go through, and especially nasty for the children. I hope the older ones at least will be able to have their say (probably through a Guardian Ad Litem, though it would be better if they could be seen and heard in person), though knowing something of how such things work I fear common sense may not prevail.
