Landlord is putting the rent up. Joy. I can't complain too much, as it is still well below the market rate for this area. But still. Bah.
Went to see I Am Legend with my brother the other evening. Getting there was a bit of an adventure, what with half the city centre having been knocked down for this new development. Seriously. They've demolished an area the size of five football pitches. The cinema we went to is surrounded on three out of four sides by demolition and building sites. I dread to think what that's done to their trade. So anyway, getting there was a bit interesting, with the regular route having been demolished, but we managed. The film was good. Very bleak, but it's apocalyptic, so that's to be expected. I knew nothing about it going in, other than that it's post-apocalyptic, so was a complete blank slate. I was worried about the dog all the way through, and then it turned out I was right to be worried. Poor dog.
I'm pretty sure I was meant to come out thinking about more than just how sad it was that the dog died.
Sweeney Todd opens soon, and seems to be attracting a lot of attention already. I dunno if I'll get to see it - I almost never go to the pictures. Also, I think I'd be terribly distracted by wanting to break out into the Sweeney Todd songs I learned in school. I mean, I can just picture Johnny Depp bursting into:
"I'm Sweeney Todd the bar-ber,
An evil soul I har-bour,
Runs a little business cutting hair and other things.
I've made a tidy pack-et
By running a nice rack-et
I'm always happy in my work,
And this is what I sing.
Cutting it fine.
Cutting it fine.
I always gives the gents a nice close shave.
Polish 'em off.
Polish 'em off.
The richer the are the more I am a knave!"
I'm actually kind of shocked that I remember that much of the words! Alas, from the trailers, I don't think it's going to be that sort of a film, although there is singing. Maybe I'll go.
I often say that about films and then never do.
Cold weather always plays hell with my hands - dry skin and scratchy kitten not a good combination - so I bought myself a new handcream in Lush. Poppy thought it smelled delicious and wanted to eat my hands. Marvellous. What it is about Lush anyway? I love the shop - the gorgeous smells and products - but find it very difficult to shop there as I always get assailed by about half a dozen assistants the moment I pass through the door, and they are so busy being aggressively helpful that it's impossible to actually browse and see if there's anything I fancy. Also, when I finally manage to break free of the helpfulness long enough to find what I was looking for, there's no one actually serving at the till, because they are all too busy 'greeting' customers.
Decided to pick up my Angel season five rewatch last night, only to realise it had stalled because I'd reached Why We Fight, which I've never actually seen and don't really fancy. Skipped it and went onto A Hole In The World instead, but quickly remembered why it is that I really don't like season five. So instead of going onto another ep, I watched a repeat of New Tricks instead. I always forget how much I enjoy that show. I love Brian and Esther. Maybe I should add it to my amazon rental list and catch a few of the earliest episodes?
Enough of the randomness.
