While enjoying a cuppa and reading the papers at a friend's house last night, I was pleased to see an article about my boy, Hernán Crespo, complete with wedding photo - but slightly disconcerted to read the content. This thing the English media have about Argentine footballers really bugs me. They've completely missed the point of what he was saying.

The Daily Mail article read as follows:

'Who says you can't have your wedding cake and eat it?
'Hernán Crespo got married on Monday and said the only thing that would make his life complete would be a permanent move to AC Milan...er...or a return to Chelsea.
'The Argentinian, on loan at Milan from the Premiership champions - who are still paying half his £90,000 per week salary - gave a Press conference in Italian and English, during which he confided that his burning ambition is to finish his career at the San Siro...er...or back at Stamford Bridge.
'Crespo told the Italians: "I am very content and the only thing that could make life better would be a permanent move to Milan," before turning to the 'foreign' scribes and adding in English: "Chelsea want me and I was very pleased to hear that Jose Mourinho wants me back."
'Of his new wife, Crespo said: "I've finally married the woman I love."
'Let's hope he has a long and happy life with Alessia...er...'

Grr.

The Daily Express also had a short piece on Crespo:

'Hernán Crespo has vowed to wreck Liverpool's Champions LEague dream - for Chelsea's sake as much as for AC Milan.
'The Argentina striker is out for revenge against Rafael Benitez's team for their semi-final win over the Premiership champions.
'Crespo has been on loan at the San Siro all season from Chelsea after falling out with Jose Mourinho.
'But after scoring both goals against Manchester United in the last 16, Crespo is looking forward to a fairytale end to the season in Istanbul next Wednesday.
'The 29 year old said: "Maybe I can take revenge for Chelsea in the final.
"I have no doubts it will be a tight game, because Liverpool defend very well.
"I know Benitez and his tactics from when he was coaching Valencia."
'Crespo could quite easily find himself back at Stamford Bridge at the start of next season if a solution to his high wage demands cannot be found. The striker is playing a game of double bluff, claiming he would be happy wherever he ends up, but after getting married to long-term partner Alessia on Monday, he declared his desire to finish his career at Milan.
'Yesterday it was a different story as he kept his options open. "I was very pleased to hear that Jose Mourinho said I could have a future at Chelsea," said Crespo.
"That would be fine but things have been going well at the San Siro and it feels like home."'

It really annoys me that both articles have completely missed the point of what he was saying, and are presenting him in a negative light. He didn't contradict himself at all - he never said he wanted to return to Chelsea, just that he was pleased to hear that they still valued him, and if he had to return there he would be okay with it. But what he actually wants is to stay at Milan - that is fairly clear.
