5.07. Hmm. My dissatisfaction with Show continues – this is three episodes in a row that I haven't really liked very much. I'm starting to get worried. I liked bits of it – again – but overall it left me feeling cold and wondering what the writers are playing at. It's like they can't figure out how to write the brothers now that they are back together, or have forgotten how to write MOTW stories that balance forward character movement with standalone plot. The characterisation, the resolution (or lack thereof), the overall message the story seemed to be sending – it all felt a little too off to me. Yet again, the whole is considerably less than the sum of its parts.
So instead of offering any in-depth thoughts on the new episode, I shall abide by my resolution to forego immediate episode reactions for the time being and instead offer up my second full recap of the season, just sneaking in before October becomes November.
And man was it depressing to revisit 5.02, full of such shiny, shiny promise, and be reminded of how little that potential has been fulfilled.
