I haven't posted any thoughts about the last two episodes of Supernatural, and I'm not going to, sorry, folks. I didn't much like 5.05, but trying to explain why to folk who did like it got me into a downward spiral of negativity that I really wasn't comfortable with. Suffice it to say that I found the episode clumsy and heavy-handed, while the resolution failed to fully engage me because it was based on a single exaggerated issue - not even the issue that should have been dealt with at that stage in logical progression, either - instead of being in any way a truly meaningful and nuanced exploration of everything that went wrong between the brothers. I live in hope that this meaningful and nuanced exploration of everything that went wrong between the brothers will still follow, but I'm not holding my breath.

5.06 I liked more than 5.05 but still found disappointing and rather clumsy overall. I did, however, really enjoy seeing the return of Sam's belief that people destined for evil can choose not to follow that path and that he was for once fully vindicated in that belief (for now, at least - out there alone, so young and impressionable, possessing such immense power, Jesse remains an unpredictable quantity) and wanted to smack Castiel hard for having a go at him when Sam made his choices based on incomplete information - and Castiel had the power to change that. I really need Castiel to get over this blame thing he's got going on. I also really liked the story of the kid's mother - I love getting a look at what happens to people after they've been touched by the supernatural, and found her story really touching, that she'd been through this terrible ordeal completely alone and this was the impact it had on her. Although it struck me as odd that the anti-Christ should have been born 11 years ago when there was absolutely no guarantee that Azazel's plans would pay off with this generation, while the whole thing about the virgin birth and the half-human half-demon felt weird and warrants further thought that I am absolutely not prepared to give it at the moment.

Long story short, I'm feeling a little burned out at the moment, having had my head buried in this show so intensely for so long, so I'm taking a little break from reviewing. Will just have to catch up with these episodes at a later date, when I have time and brain for recapping.
