Okay, if I could stop coughing now? That would be good!

Man. The cold I had last week was all aching limbs and joints and throbbing head and thinking through cotton wool and brain death. The cold I have this week? Blocked sinuses and earrache and runny eyes and a throat that feels a bit like I gargled on broken glass. Bleurgh. So which is worse? Answers on a postcard, please. And to think I thought I'd escaped all the germs that have been flying around this winter. Turns out, they were just biding their time.

Officially gave in to the bug and came home from work this morning. Probably shouldn't have gone in at all, and almost didn't, but in the end it was just as well I did, since Suz, who rents desk space from us, locked up with her own key last night and left the main office key - which should live in reception - locked in our office. Which meant that I arrived to find a couple of volunteers hanging around reception unable to get into the office until I got there to open up for them, because it wouldn't occur to the guy on reception to use his masterkey to let them in. That would be far too helpful and sensible. This is why there is a main office key that lives in reception, and staff have their own copies just for emergencies, not for regular use. Still. I felt marginally productive, having unlocked the room to allow other people to get in a full day's work. Or morning's work. Or however long they were volunteering for. Also, got a funding bid signed off, and a lift home from a colleague. We decided to drop the bid off en route, rather than entrusting it to the post. Turned out this was just as well, since Boss had the wrong address on the envelope - she'd addressed it to Age Concern Cymru, when it needed to go to Age Concern Cardiff and the Vale. This may not seem like a large distinction, but the different branches of Age Concern are strictly autonomous and really snooty about that fact. So Sally and I spent a lot of time driving around a couple of different business parks looking for Age Concern offices. I now understand why so many postmen suffer from depression. And then I came home at last and succumbed utterly to this wretched cold and my need for cough medicine and lemsip. I've been watching a lot of Gilmore Girls season one, with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nikkimisplaced and the generous loan of DVDs. Perfect timing.

Okay, that was more than I planned to say when I started this post. Oh, but also? My cat is adorably cuddlesome and cwtchy if I go to bed in the middle of the day, which only ever happens when I'm ill. Even if she still doesn't like sitting on a lap, and is currently obsessed with the recycling bin, and has a bad habit of scratching paint off the walls. When she tucks her head under my chin and purrs us both to sleep, I can forgive her anything.

Torchwood was on last night. Third episode of the new season, and it continues to impress me, and I continue to feel a little bit worried about that fact, like it's unnatural somehow.

I am officially in love with Tosh's flat. So huuuuuuuge! So clean and bright and shiny! And clearly right in the heart of the Bay, since she managed to get home from the Hub in under 9 minutes. If she can afford a place that's that big, in that location? Torchwood must pay really, really well. So where do I sign up? I'm willing to do battle with gross aliens and weird timeshifts if I can score a place like that! Although maybe not when I have a cold, okay? When I'm better, then I'll sign up and battle aliens and earn what must be a small fortune, clearly.

They slowed the pace right down for this episode, after a pretty frantic first two outings, and I enjoyed it. It was touching and heartwarming, and maybe a little bit paradoxical, but most time travel stories are, and I'm not planning to twist my brain in the slightest trying to puzzle the plot to death. Where the Who-verse is concerned, I just watch and enjoy, I don't attempt to understand. The science is always ridiculous, and it's much easier to enjoy yourself if you just accept that without question and overlook it.

I liked Tommy, and I felt his connection with Tosh even if they had only spent four days together spread over four years. I mean, that's exactly the sort of thing Tosh would go for! It totally fits with everything we've ever learned about her and her insecurity and predeliction for guys she can't have. Owen really seems to have changed a lot since his meltdown last season and I approve of this character growth wholeheartedly, Gwen didn't annoy me, Jack and Ianto were Jack and Ianto...yeah, I enjoyed this one. I like that the team actually feels like a team this season.

And I loved the glimpses we were given of Torchwood 1918, with the primitive tech and Queen and Country mentality, and the concept of the two timezones overlapping and ghosts bleeding through from one to the other. Nicely creepy at times. I'm actually looking forward to this every week, which I'd never have expected before the new season began!
