D keeps emailing and texting me pics and vids of the kittens. I'm not sure if it's meant to be some kind of sales pitch (so not needed. Already sold) or if she feels like she's in loco parentis and has to keep me informed of every stage of Poppy's development until she comes to me!
Watched the second ep of The Tudors. I'm still in two minds. I like Jonathan Rhys Meyers as an actor, but he really isn't convincing me as Henry. I think it's mostly a physical thing - he looks almost the opposite of Henry, short and dark where Henry was a tall, strapping redhead. He keeps drifting back to his native Irish accent, which doesn't help, and plays Henry as quite petulant, more than anything else. Maybe he was. But I'd prefer to see a wider range of emotions from such a complex character.
I'm also having trouble with the droopy velvet hats and pantaloons of the period! The manly man-skirts of Rome were so much easier to accept... *G*
I do like Catherine of Aragon - Maria Doyle Kennedy plays her exactly as I'd always pictured her: dignified, pious and desolated, the rejected wife.
I'm already having trouble with the mangled history, though, far more so than I ever did with Rome, and that's going to be the biggest drawback with enjoying the rest of the series, I think. For example, Henry's dalliance with Mary Boleyn looks to be over already, all within one episode and a scant pair of scenes together. When in fact she was his mistress for years and they had two children together. Maybe there'll be more of it next week, but it doesn't look likely - the stage is being set for Anne already, and I suspect that relationship will become central from now on.
Not having read any spoilerish reviews or recaps, I have no idea how much of Henry's story is crammed into these ten episodes of season one - I'm guessing not all of it, as a second season seems to be in the pipeline. But still, JRM is awfully young to play Henry for the full extent of his reign.
So, the jury is still out.
Untipping remains a work in progress. I'll get there in the end... It's good to have a project! Work is annoying, but no more so than usual. We appear to have a new Centre Manager for the building, although I only know this because I watched her office being set up just down the corridor from mine last week, and saw her in it yesterday. Be nice if the tenants were kept informed! But maybe they don't want us to know who to complain to about the broken air conditioning, leaky roof, and filthy condition of the toilets...
