Cardiff ComicCon
Aug. 31st, 2013 05:33 pmSo today was fun! I went to the Cardiff ComicCon, the first of its kind to be held here, and spent the day hanging out with
doctorpancakes (who is much more of an old hand at these events than I am) and wandering around all the stands and stalls.
Met Frazer Hines, who is great fun - and knows Sami by sight, they've met so often.

And also had a lovely chat with Virginia Hey (Zhaan from Farscape) about the lovely soaps she makes and was selling at the event. Alas, pretty smelling soaps are basically lost on me, as I have almost no sense of smell, but she was really pleased that we were taking an interest and told us all about the various blends she's made and how hard it was so source the right ingredients for some of them. She was lovely, so sweet. (I didn't get very good photos, though, 'cause she moved just as I clicked, but such is life)

Also met John Leeson, the voice of K9 - who drops into and out of his K9 voice at the drop of a hat and is really lovely and friendly - and Matt Irvine, a visual effects designer who has worked on both classic and new Who.

Also there (but didn't queue to talk to) were Brian Blessed, Robert Llewellyn, Chris Barrie and Alice Krige.

The queue for Tony Head was hella long!

David Hasselhof wandered past at one point - out in a back hallway, where John Leeson had taken us so Sami could take a proper portrait photo of him for a project. So funny that both Sami and John barely even registered him, I don't think the Hoff is often ignored so resoundingly! He is very, very tall and looks like he's made of plastic.
There was a Dalek trundling around chatting up the crowds, and K9 was also pootling about the place, trying to run down unsuspecting children...

I only went to one of the panels - the Doctor Who one, of course. Panelists were Frazer Hines, John Leeson and Matt Irvine, with Gary Russell moderating - the cue for loads of entertaining discussion about their involvement in the show and what it was like filming back then compared with now, John and Frazer dropped into an impromptu Bungle and Zippy skit at one point...all very funny!

So all in all, a good day was had by all, I think - and I came away with a bunch of Big Finish audios to listen to, which was very naughty of me since I'm not supposed to be buying more stuff when I've already got so much to pack by the time I move!
