Nov. 16th, 2012 02:12 pm1. The Christmas Market kicked off in town last night. That's my starting pistol to got down to some serious Christmas shopping! It was all very pretty and festive, with all kinds of street entertainment to mark the occasion, including a pen of cute little baby reindeer. Also, I got accosted by a mime!
2. Thank you to everyone who left messages of support when I posted about my cousin's newborn baby with the heart condition. The specialists have decided not to operate until she is bigger, so for the next 3-4 months the brief will be to keep her comfortable and well and as healthy as possible. Her mum is very upset but is being very strong, and she has a lot of support.
3. I recently read Elizabeth Gaskill's Wives and Daughters for the first time – forgetting until I got to the end that this was the book left incomplete when she died, so I got to the final page and yelled 'no, it can't end there!' So then I went out and bought the TV mini-series made in 1999 so I could see how they'd written the ending-that-wasn't! As TV adaptations go, it wasn't bad – very condensed, no doubt necessarily, but well made and engaging to watch. It was like watching the Who's Who of British costume drama, though. Every time a new character walked on-screen, I instantly recognised them from something else…although whether I could place that something else was another matter entirely. The ultimate 'hey, it's that guy' show!
4. My shower is currently out of action, which is a source of great woe. Luckily I also have a bath, but as much as I love a long, hot soak in the tub from time to time, I do miss the ease and simplicity of a quick shower. I'd like to think it'll be fixed soon – but alas it'll probably be another fortnight, since my dad/landlord is away all next week and won't have a chance to do the work before then. The trials and tribulations of renting from family!
5. Speaking of which, my house is going on the market after Christmas to be sold from under me, so depending on how fast it sells, I'm going to have to start flat-hunting – which won't be easy, since I have some pretty specific requirements (garden access for cats, etc). I'm also going to need to book some time for cleaning and sorting – I seem to have accumulated all kinds of junk since I moved, and since I'm going to have to downsize…some serious sorting is required!
