1. Stephen and Yuki have taken the boys south to stay with Yuki's parents for the duration, out of the immediate radiation danger zone, to be on the safe side. Supplies were running very low where they were, but they had just enough petrol left in Yuki's car to get there. This is good.

2. Hey, so the new Midsomer Murders kicks off next week, with Barnaby the Second in his inaugural investigation! ITV are advertising the heck out of it. It'll be interesting to see how the show fares in this transitional period - can be such a risky business for a long-standing show like that, bringing in a new lead and hoping they can re-create the same kind of magic that the first had. I liked the new Barnaby when he guested a few episodes back, so am keeping my fingers crossed he works just as well as lead...much as I will miss Barnaby the First.

3. There was a strike on at work today - a pensions row. I'm not in the union (plus I think I'm in a different pension scheme than the one being disputed anyway), so went into work as usual. Was quite glad that the rain meant there weren't many picketers at the door - and the soggy few who were out weren't in much of a mood for heckling. They gave me a leaflet in exchange for cups of coffee and that was about it!

4. Alfred the Great has been uncharacteristically cwtchy this week. I'm not sure what that's all about. He has even come and curled up on my lap a couple of times, completely spontaneously! This may not seem like earth-shattering news - Poppy, afer all, has always been a lappy cat, with her the trick is getting her to stay off my lap when I'm trying to, for example, type - but Alfie has never been the slightest bit cuddly, so it's always that bit more special when he comes looking for love. Mostly, though, I think his current cuddliness stems from the fact that he has adopted my armchair as his spot of the moment, and if sitting there means also sitting on me then so be it. We'll see if the trend continues, or fades away the moment he moves onto a new spot!
