It seems to have been ages since I updated, so here are a few random thoughts by way of catch-up!
1. I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again: there are few things as unattractive as a young man walking down the street with a hand shoved down the front of his trousers. Seriously, lads, it's not going to fall off - you don't have to keep touching it to check it's still there!
2. Have been off work half this week after getting clobbered by a rather nasty cold that struck me down over the weekend...and, of course, the trouble with being off work sick is that the being ill part means you don't get to enjoy the being lazy part. Still, the downtime was a good opportunity to catch up on some serious DVD watching, so, as well as randomly dabbling in various of the DVDs I'd been given for my birthday, I also marathoned through most of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (with many thanks to Sue for the loan, I've thoroughly enjoyed it!) and binged on early seasons of Friends. And, you know, Friends is on all the time in re-runs, so I must have seen every episode any number of times, over the years...but I've never watched the show through in order since it first aired. So it's kinda cool to go back to the beginning and watch the episodes in order, watching the various character arcs play out knowing how they all end up. Loadsa fun.
3. Feeling extremely disinclined to think thinky thoughts about shows at the moment, I have instead found myself having a family history blitz. I'm not sure what brought that on...no, actually, that's not true. I suspect it was my Auntie Ivy's birthday that brought it on. My Great-Aunt Ivy just turned 90 last week - she is the oldest left of my grandparents' generation, and fast becoming worryingly frail and confused. And that got me thinking...and the next thing I knew, I was going through the collection of old family photos that I have copies of and comparing them with what I know of my mum's family tree research (or at least what she had uploaded onto ancestry.com before her membership lapsed), jotting down a few little anecdotes that I've heard around the family, and so on. It's a lot of fun doing it this way - having the family tree information available helps to make sense of who is who and how they are connected in the photos, and having the photos available helps to make all those names in the family tree come to life and become people, rather than just names and dates. I really must book in a day for me and Mum to spend together updating - and maybe get some more old photos scanned in, since there are big gaps in my collection...
4. I've only been back in work a couple of days, but feel very ready for the weekend already!
