Aug. 18th, 2009 01:32 pmApparently, there is an eagle owl on the loose in my neighbourhood. It has been spotted - and photographed - by a number of people, but so far the RSPB and other agencies have been unable to capture it. Local residents have been advised to keep cats and small dogs indoors, wherever possible, as the eagle owl is a pretty huge bird capable of attacking anything up to the size of a small deer!
Marvellous. I have just spent weeks teaching my cat to be comfortable using the catflap, and she has just, finally got to the stage where she is happy to come and go as she pleases, shunning the litter tray in favour of the garden, which is as it should be. And now I'm being advised to lock her in again!
I think she'll be okay, though. She doesn't really venture outside the garden, and since the garden is tiny and the eagle owl has a wing span of 5 foot, I doubt he'd be able to get into it!
In other news,
byslantedlight came for a short visit last weekend and we had a lot of fun touring the sights of the city and indulging in a little Torchwood location-spotting - there's a pretty picspam over on her journal, here, for anyone who might be interested!
And in other news again, the kittens are growing fast, as is their wont. They are now six days old, and three out of four have started to open their eyes now! This is very exciting, although probably not so much for anyone who isn't us. Next week I'm going to have them all to myself as the family heads off on holiday leaving me to hold the fort. I'd like to say I'm sorry not to be going with them - and I am, really - but I honestly can't say I mind. I'm really liking the idea of a really quiet, peaceful week all to myself, with nothing to do but watch DVDs, write, and watch the kittens grow!
I might even manage to get a project or two completed, if I'm very lucky...
