bedlam

Weekend kind of evaporated. Mostly because Saturday got swallowed up so comprehensively - started out lazily enough, but then Mum called to say she and Dad were heading up to the designer outlet at Festival Park, Ebbw Vale, and did I want to come. Opportunity to spend money? Of course I was going. And so money was spent. *G* Then coming back we stopped off at Pets At Home and I spent lots more money on kitten accessories ready for when Poppy gets here. And by then it was well past lunchtime, so the parents came back to mine for lunch - Mum's not well, so it saved her having to cook - and stayed most of the afternoon. I'd no sooner got rid of them than Jane-next-door appeared on the doorstop all upset over some bloke, and stayed most of the evening. So Saturday? Vanished in a haze.

Sunday wasn't much better, but I did at least manage to get some more quality untipping of the cupboard under my belt, so it wasn't a complete loss.

The holiday down in Pevensey Bay (just under a fortnight now) is starting to look like it will be absolute bedlam. My brother-in-law's brother has announced that he wants D&R to take his three youngest on the holiday with them. They are nine, six and four; the oldest, who is 14, is in South Africa visiting her real father and grandmother. Now, this suggestion is mostly because he's jealous that they've got Small staying with them this week, but seriously - it's the first time they've had her on her own in over a year. No one ever said A&S were rational, though. D&R have grudgingly said they will take them, since they are R's family, but A has to pay £200 contribution toward the cost of the holiday. This proved the sticking point when he had a similar brainwave last year, and it never happened. Personally, I can't see it happening this year, either. S is a paranoid depressive, and is insanely jealous. She gets paranoid that D&R are trying to steal her children if they so much as send a birthday present, so I can't see her actually sending her children to stay with them for a week. So we'll wait and see on that one.

Could make the holiday interesting if A's three do come with us. They would bring our number up to ten, and technically the house we stay in does sleep ten, but that's rather dependent on having the right combination of ages and genders. Small is already stressing about it, being mildly autistic and very fearful of anything different. If they come we'll work something out for sleeping arrangements, no real problem there. But seriously - six adults, four children, two kittens and a hamster. It is going to be absolute bedlam!
