Damn. That vicar who got murdered a couple of days ago in Trecynon, just a few miles up the valley? In work, we received a letter from him this morning, a reference for one of our new volunteers. The volunteer who deals with membership is here this morning - she says she spoke to him on the phone last Thursday about the reference - they had a conversation about the trouble he had with the post, because the name of his vicarage is 'St Fagans', and the post office keep confusing it with the St Fagans in Cardiff. He was murdered right outside that vicarage. :( Delor put a new reference form in the post for him that day, last Thursday, so if he died on Wednesday, then filling it in and sending it back must have been one of the last things he did. :(

Popped into town at lunchtime to pick up some crafty bits and pieces for my Mum for Mother's Day from Lakeland, and, man...I should never be allowed into homeware stores. I always want to come away with about half the shop!

Saw Rupert Moon while I was out, wandering around in a sharp, sharp suit. I was, like: "I know that face..."

The demolition work in the city centre is proceeding apace. So many buildings have already been taken down - the ice rink, Toys R Us, the car park... Small's mother used to sleep rough in that car park during one of her phases when she decided that being homeless was preferable to abiding by the 'no drugs, no violent boyfriends' rules of the refuge she'd been in. About half the Hayes has also already gone - the Oxford Arcade and the shops and offices around it. The library is half gone. The scale of the destruction is pretty awesome. So is the dust. And then when it's all done, there'll be two-plus years of building work to look forward to. I've already had to alter my route to and from work slightly to detour around the worst of the work. I just hope the new complex is worth it all when it's complete!
