a warm, Christmas glow
Dec. 11th, 2005 08:38 pmI often moan and whinge about having to get up on Sunday mornings to teach my Sunday School class, and I often moan and whinge about having to rush straight from work on Monday evenings to pick kids up for Monday Club and then hang around waiting to take them home again.
And then there are nights like tonight when I can't help but admit, in spite of it all, that I actually am genuinely fond of the little pests. :-)
Tonight we had our Nativity Play. I have seven regulars in my class, and they were all there: I had both Mary and Joseph, a traveller, the Angel Gabriel, a Wise Man and two narrators. They were all fab - they'd learned their words beautifully, spoke them clearly, and remembered their cues. Can't ask for more than that. The whole Sunday School were fab, from the 16 year old who stood in at the last minute as a stop-gap narrator, down to the littlest angel aged just four, tinsel and tea towels and all.
I feel very, very Christmassy now.
Small was a narrator, and she did really well in spite of her nerves. It was especially difficult for her because her hearing is so bad right now - she had to turn around and lip-read the other children to make sure she got her cues, because she couldn't hear them. But she'd already missed out on her Sioe in school because she was ill last week (they'd been rehearsing Oliver for weeks) so we were really proud of her. :-)
And, on a really frivolous note, I love the skirt my clever mum made for me. I don't wear it often, as it is quite dressy, but it really is gorgeous - all swishy and feminine-feeling. Perfect for Christmas services like tonight.
