Okay, so post-bank holiday today is my first day back in work after the holiday.

Except that I had to take the morning off for Bert's funeral. I'm glad I went. He was a lovely old man, and the long 'friendship' he had with my Nan was very important to both of them, for a very long time, despite his being 20 years older than her. Nan was very upset at the funeral. I was sad, but not upset - it was hardly a surprise that he died. He'd been failing for months, and had so many illnesses come the end. I'm just glad I can remember him how he used to be, active and mobile, and full of stories about his days as an engineer in the merchant navy.

After the funeral, my dad gave me a lift into the office. My first day in for over a week. I'd barely had time to put the kettle on and take a bite out of my sandwich before I had a call from reception - my driving instructor had arrived to give me a lesson. Now, before the holiday we had discussed today as a possible alternative date (we usually have lessons on a Monday, but yesterday was a bank holiday) but he'd said he would ring to confirm, and he didn't. So I was completely caught on the hop and had to pinch money from petty cash to pay for the lesson! Which means I have to remember to put it back tomorrow.

I'm now trying desperately to catch up with everything that's been piling up since I went away, but it's a thankless task. I'm all alone and the sun is shining outside. And I've got a note from our finance volunteer asking me to put the cheques in the bank before 1st September. That means today, which means I'll have to leave work early to make sure I get there before they close! I'm not going to complain about that!
