snow!

This was the view from my office window this morning:

That was just after I arrived, looking not un-akin to an Eskimo, having been caught in a particularly nasty snow shower en route. Just ten minutes earlier, Bute Park had looked like this as I walked through:

Eventually, the sun came out. This was short-lived, but pretty while it lasted. Then the snow rolled in again and the view from my office window got whiter and whiter (and the volume of snow on the trees outside grew heavier and heavier)

This was the view from the other window in the office - the skylight!

Yeah, there were about 6 inches of snow all over that come the end of the day!

By mid-afternoon, the (apparently ungritted - what was the council playing at?) roads were starting to get pretty slippery, and my view was still getting ever whiter - definitely time to call it a day and head home while it was still safe to do so!

Just to continue the wintry theme, here are some frosty pics taken a couple of weeks ago, in the last big chill we had:

And finally - a pair of bookends!

Those pictures are so beautiful. It doesn't snow here and snowy places always look like magical fairylands to me :)

Heh, kinda looks like the view from my window. We had crazy snowfalls over night, several inches of snow came down. There was chaos on the streets all day long. I am happy that the weekend is upon us, as driving to work is a bit nerve-wrecking at the moment. LOL

It really is blue in those top pictures, no photo filter used ?

I am thinking of night scenes in movies where they are blue and you know they have been filmed in daylight but a blue filter added to make it look like a night scene. Annoying if you want to make an icon with natural colour skin. Decreasing the blue does not always work and I am still to find out a good recipe/tutorial.

Your bookends are on guard duty ... very serious. Still, they are inside and no out in that snow. Best place to be.

Thanks for the pic spam (and me sitting here with the fan on ... the snow did help to cool me down).

Oh wow, isn't it beautiful ♥ Snow is so damn pretty. Sounds like it can be a pain at times, but pretty. And cats! Whoa, yellow eyed demon thing going on there *g*

Looks like Chicago in winter!

Hummie!

I'm pretty sure Chicago looks a lot worse, but we don't get snow this heavy in these parts terribly often so it is quite a novelty when we do. Also - pretty!

It is very pretty - as long as you don't have to go out in it! Getting home was a bit dodgy yesterday. I'd made sure to leave in good time before it started to freeze, but it was still really slippery - traffic was down to about 2 miles an hour and still slipping all over the place!

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
*wants pretty snowy Germany pics* :P

The streets were chaos here, too - down to a crawl of about 2 miles an hour and still slipping and sliding all over the place. 'Tis a weekend to stay indoors!

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
No photo filter used, no - exactly the same camera settings on all the photos taken yesterday, in fact! That's just what the light was like at 9am yesterday morning!

It's really quiet when the snow is thick, too - as if the snow is a big blanket draped over the land, muffling all the sound.

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty - but a bit treacherous to have to go out in!

[identity profile] catsdownunder.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
So blue is natural ... interesting (as you can guess, I have never seen snow in reality). Must remember to go outside on a full moon and see what the colours are in a non-snowy environment ... I keep forgetting.

The muffling of the sound would be a bit eerie. Free (and very cold) sound proofing :)

PS: Merlin is now "On Hiatus" or are you getting repeats ?

Yep, the blue is natural - just need the right time of day and the right weather conditions.

Merlin is on hiatus, yes, and won't be back on our screens until next autumn. British TV runs in blocks - spring, summer, autumn, winter. Merlin usually falls into the autumn schedule. Then Doctor Who, for eg, sits in the same timeslot in spring, and so on.

[identity profile] catsdownunder.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Only thing with Merlin ... we won't get that until 2012 and only 10 episodes for Series 4.

I am having withdrawal symptons now ... re-watching Series 1 dvds at night.

At least they are advertising the Doctor Who Christmas Special ... thank goodness.

Heh, I put a digital camera on my Christmas wishlist. Maybe Santa is nice and gives it to me, so I can make pretty pictures for you. ;)

You've had more than us for once :) It makes a nice change after the last few weeks. Lovely pics :)

10 inches deep in my garden! That's unheard of here on the coast!

Very beautiful pictures! That tree in the 5th pic is gorgeous.

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks - and aye, that particular tree is always pretty with a bit of frost/snow on it! It's looking rather more heavy-laden today, mind...
