progress report

A detective just phoned to give me an update on the investigation into my burglary the other week. The update is basically that there hasn't been much progress. There was very little material evidence, which I already knew, but they did get good, consistent descriptions from several neighbours which they have matched to CCTV footage from the pub opposite. That's all very good and positive. The problem is that they can't locate the man, who goes by a nickname; the pub landlord doesn't know his real name. But the detective wanted me to know that they are still working on the case and said she'll ring again with another update in a week or two.

Well, that's something, I suppose. I got the impression when she visited me the day after the burglary that she was expecting to simply close the case in a week or two because of lack of evidence, so it's nice to know there has been at least some investigation and that said investigation is continuing still.

In other news, I've been having a bit of a binge on ebay's vintage fine jewellery section, from which I might have to ban myself again - but hopefully my insurance will come through soon, to justify the expenditure...*G*

Sounds like they're working on it, you know - in fact every time I've had dealings with the police, they really do seem to have been trying to find the villain, and I remember my aunt (whose first husband was in the police) telling me that actually they do often recover stolen goods, but because people have claimed on the insurance it's often not reclaimed and ends up being stored for ages before being sold on in auction... (that was how I found out my "friend" had never even reported my laptop in with the rest of the stuff when her place was burgled, and again the police were helpful in finding out what had happened there, too...). So I'm still crossing my fingers that they'll a) get the guy; and/or b) be able to track his usual haunts/fences etc...

Last time I was burgled I never heard from the police again, so I wasn't terribly optimistic about hearing from them this time - I'm very glad to know they are still investigating, though! I would dearly love to get my aunt's necklace back, if nothing else, although I'm not letting myself get too hopeful about that.
