autumn colours and kittyspam

Autumn colours picspam posted over at [livejournal.com profile] scene_again, if anyone is interested.

It's been busy times at my house lately - I'm currently getting all set up for a decorating bonanza to begin, as my dad has booked next week off work to get started on my house. That means I have to decide on my colour schemes already! I now have a nice collection of paint samples to work my way through. The actual decorating could be interesting, with the cats underfoot. Poppy shouldn't be any trouble, as she still associates Dad with the dog and therefore keeps out of his way, but Alfie will want to be all over him - and in the paint tin, if possible, no doubt!

Alfie hasn't actually been terribly well lately. Shortly after my sister and her husband went home after staying for that long weekend, he developed terrible sickness and diarrhoea and I had to take him to the vet, who prescribed two different medicines that both had to be squirted down his throat. You can imagine how much he didn't love that! He is much better now...at least the diarrhoea came to an end pretty quickly, for which both myself and Alfie were exceedingly grateful! Now that he has finished the medicine, though, he has started to have occasional bouts of vomiting again, which I will have to mention to the vet when I take him back for his second injection. Between that and his continued food phobia, I suspect he has rather a fragile digestive system and am hoping he will grow out of it. On the bright side, however, he is very active, playful and content and is still gaining weight and growing, so there can't be too much wrong with him.

Here is Alfie while he was poorly, all cwtched up feeling a little sorry for himself but also enjoying being well and truly pampered.

Alfie checking his emails and the latest news over at BuffyForums.

Alfie feeling much better and showing off how sweet and adorable he knows he is.

Alfie playing with Poppy.

I am so glad the two cats get along as well as they do - they really have adopted one another as the very best of companions, and love cuddling up together on the bed as much as they love chasing each other around the house and wrestling. They will spend ages cwtched up washing each other, and I have even caught Alfie trying to suckle from Poppy! She used to do the same thing to the back of my neck when she was this age, as I recall. Alfie was doomed to disappointment there, of course, but seemed to find the intimacy comforting and Poppy didn't seem to mind in the slightest, just sat there washing him. 'Twas adorable...although, of course, just a few minutes later they were both downstairs looking for real food!

Get that camera out of my face! Enough pictures already! *G*

OMG they were cute on their own, but their combined adorableness kills me. ♥

Aren't they sweet? I love the one where Poppy has her arm around Alfie to hold him still while she concentrates very hard on washing him. *G*

Sweeeeeet!

Glad to have given you a wee break from your hard labour!

Awwww. :) Looks like you're going to have to wrestle the laptop away from Alfie. He looks to be the habitual e-mail checker. Just make sure he doesn't sign up for Facebook otherwise you'll never get him off. *wink*

Heh, they grow up so fast these days, eh - one minute a blind, squiggly little rat of a thing, the next surfing the 'net!

[identity profile] solosundance.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
sheesh, they grow up so fast these days, he's on the pooter already :) So pleased to see Alfie and Poppy enjoying each other's company. That's very heartening. I can feel a trip to Cat Rescue coming on *g*

I know, I feel so lucky that they have taken to one another so easily. It is nice to know that they have each other for company while I'm at work every day - I suspect they spend most of the day curled up on the bed!

They are so cute!!!!!!! I hope the little fellow is feeling better. Good luck with the decorating!

He seems better, ta, although I'll be a lot happier when his appetite is reliable!

Pretty pictures of autumn <3 Love that season. And cute cats of cuteness! Aw poor Alfie feeling poorly, hope he's feeling better now. So cute of him surfing teh internets.

Painting! Fun times. Lol you might end up with some catprints on the walls/floor.

Autumn is so pretty, isn't it - just a shame October wasn't as crisp as it usually is.

I'm hoping to avoid painty catprints, thanks all the same...*G*

Lovely pictures, poor Alfie - he did look sorry for himself, didn't he? But the pictures of the two of them together are just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing these!

He was quite miserable for a couple of days there - I got really worried about him (not to mention fed up of cleaning up after him all the time). Luckily the medicine fixed him up. I just hope his fragile digestive system is something he grows out of.

[identity profile] catsdownunder.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
You are so lucky that they are getting along after the worry before you bought Alfie home.

::: HUGS ::: for Alfie, hopefully he will grow out of whatever is troubling him, but like you said, if he is putting on weight and growing obviously he is not starving.

The first picture of him snuggled up in the blanket is so beautiful and the last one ... one has to laugh.

I have a meowing cat ... someone wants my attention ... no doubt ... yes she is sharing my chair so I am half on half off.

I know, I was concerned that Poppy might react badly to having another cat in the house - her sister Mackerel reacted badly when Deb took Jasper home and decided to live in the garden for a week in protest! But Poppy accepted him really quickly and now seems to see him as a fun little companion, while he has totally adopted her as surrogate mum/fun auntie!

I really hope he grows out of his digestive troubles. I won't feel entirely easy until he starts eating reliably, even though his milk and biscuit diet seems to be working for him.

[identity profile] catsdownunder.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Rosie is a biscuit girl ... she will eat a little bit of canned cat food, however 99% is biscuits. She loves her water and we have plenty of containers around for her as she prefers the container to be big. Hence we go so far as having a BUCKET ... full to the top so she can reach ... sitting in the lounge, ice cream containers in both bathrooms and a large dish outside. Every time I see 'milk' I think ... not cows milk ... no you would not give him that, there is special milk for cats you can buy. So don't worry, as long as he has fluid, biscuits will be fine. Rosie loves Whiskas ... the little pillows ... we have tried her on others, but these are what she loves. Thank goodness they have many flavours.

Oh, poor little Alfie! I'm sorry to hear he's been poorly, but glad to hear he's picking up. Does the vet have any useful advice about his apparently frail digestive system, or is it still a case of letting Alfie decide what's good and what isn't? I suppose it's possible that his recent illness was caused by something he'd eaten - but if he's not going out yet it's difficult to think what that might be.

I'm so glad Poppy's accepted him - they are gorgeous together!

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't know what set it off - apparently, kittens can just be prone to tummy bugs, for whatever reason. The vet just said to bring him back if there was no improvement. I can't see that he would have eaten anything dodgy because he doesn't eat anything! He has his biscuits (and not many of 'em, because he likes to graze and then Poppy swoops in and polishes 'em off) and his milk and that's about it. He is phobic about wet cat food. So, goodness knows. It was nasty, though, whatever it was, so I'm glad the medicine fixed him. I did ask about the food phobia when I took him for his first injection and the vet just said to let him take the lead on his diet, so I am. I might ask again, though, when I take him back for the second jab which is coming up.

I definitely do want to re-home the willow tree, btw. It really can't stay where it is, long-term. It'll be okay through the winter when I don't need the washing line and it shouldn't be actively growing, but come spring a new home will become absolutely essential!

[identity profile] femsc.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
OK, thinking on a serious level will be done.

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent - although don't worry if it isn't practical for you. I will find something somewhere eventually. It does definitely have to be re-homed sooner or later, though, and I want it to go someplace it will be cared for and stand a chance of surviving and growing strong.

The Autumn pictures are lovely, but naturally the kittyspam pics are the stars. I love the one where Poppy is holding Alfie and washing him.
I hope Alfie is fully recovered soon. :)
