(no subject)

Thanks to everyone who replied to my last entry. I turned the job down, and felt nothing but relief. Applied to M&S instead for seasonal work to tide me over in the meantime, because honestly - I'd much rather that than spend every night wandering unfamiliar streets in unfamiliar towns knocking on strangers' doors. *shudders*

Just have to hope something else comes along sooner rather than later. It's not like I don't have enough applications pending.

While I'm on, I'd like to quickly express birthday wishes for [livejournal.com profile] andreathelion - hope you're having a great day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I did watch the new SN this morning - it was a much needed distraction! Not really in any fit state to make much comment today, but will just quickly say that it was great to see Sam just sitting back and enjoying watching Dean being Dean. They both seemed like a huge weight had lifted off their shoulders since last week - Sam no longer having to hide anything, and Dean no longer having to worry about what Sam is up to and what it might lead to. They seemed like their old selves...on the surface, as long as they studiously avoid all mention of more thorny subjects.

Also? Sam ate! Twice! He put food in his mouth, chewed and swallowed.

And I was a little intrigued to hear Dean run through the list of old scars he used to have, that disappeared when he was resurrected.

Yeah, and the funny, too. *G*

And now I am off to my parents' new house to continue stripping wallpaper, which should be good and therapeutic.

Thanks for the wishes :)
I just read your last entry and I must say, I'm glad you decided against it.
It sounded very dubious to me.
Keep my fingers crossed for a proper and adequate job and that as soon as possible.
Have fun with stripping wallpaper ;)

Hope you had a good day. And thanks.

That's good to hear. M&S- am guessing that's Marks and Spencer? Well, christmas time retail never did any harm! :)

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking - right now I'm past caring.

[identity profile] bagpuss1966.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
There was me panicking that I'd not responded to your entry and been all unsupportive, but I see you made the post this morning so I don't feel so bad!

Having now read through it, it absolutely sounds like you did the right thing. I have no doubts that you could do the job but it doesn't sound like you (even though I suppose I don't know you that well and meeting you twice does not make me an expert!) - and I think in the current climate, it's probably hard to make people sign up - I'm already thinking about my own charity donations and whether I can realistically afford to keep them all going.

Anyway, I'm glad it's a weight of your shoulders, which shows it was wrong for you. Good luck with the M&S seasonal job application. *Hugs* :)

Yeah, there wasn't long between the two posts.

Apparently, charity donations are actually up at the moment - during these hard times, people are feeling more sympathetic. But what really put me off was the way all these salespeople were gloating over the fact. "Everyone else is struggling, but we're minted, hahaha, aren't we great." Meh. I really would have hated it.

[identity profile] welshdreamer.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't see the previous entry either until you posted this one, but I've had a read back and I think you've made the right decision. Out late at night in the dark getting people to give out their bank details for the RSPCA? No way - it doesn't sound very safe. I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole - you've done the right thing.

I'm really shocked at the RSPCA actually, I think charities have gone stupid these days with chuggers and door to door. People have been door to door illegally for the Red Cross in our village. Thing is, when I give to a charity, I like to think that most of my money is going to the cause, not to glossy magazines and chuggers etc. At least with the Pelican Crossing I know every pound is going straight into the fund. I know charities have to raise money, but they're going too far (IMO)

Sorry, I got on my soapbox a bit then! Hope you're OK love, I'll keep looking out for SMU jobs, I know it's a bit of a commute but it's only £5.60 return! x

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm glad I turned it down - I will look at the SMU jobs. And any others that come along.

How the sales thing works is that every penny donated by people who sign up for direct debit schemes does go to the charity. But the charity then pays the sales company, out of their advertising budget, to sign up more donors - it is a safer return on the investment than a TV advert, apparently, where the returns can never be quantified. I had no problem with that. But the fact that we were in a very deprived area knocking on the doors of vulnerable people and manipulating them into parting with cash they can ill afford did bother me. I watched Lucy give her sales pitch over and over, and it was so, so manipulative. Horrible.

I'm glad I said no. And having the offer was a confidence boost! Hopefully, anyway. I'm trying not to get in a funk.

I always miss everything. :/

OMG you're right! Sam did eat last night!!

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
What did you miss? You'd have been asleep for my first post ;)

Yup, Sam ate. Also, I have decided that there is a definite demarcation in the brothers' knowledge of movies. Sam is an expert on black and white, whereas Dean's encylopaedic knowledge is restricted to the colour era!

[identity profile] littlepunkryo.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
I have not watched many black and white movies. At all. I don't actually watch many movies, honestly. So a lot of the boys' references - especially the music ones - kind of go over my head!

I can see Sam wanting to watch all those "scary" old-time movies when he was young, because he didn't know what John did yet.

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
What made me think this was how he came up with film references in this episode that Dean didn't get, when Dean has always been established as the film buff. But these were old black-and-white films Sam was talking about - and in Hollywood Babylon he identified the 30s starlet ghost, as well. So definitely - Sam knows black-and-white, but Dean knows more modern stuff!

[identity profile] littlepunkryo.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
I can totally see Sam liking the older stuff, there's something romantic about it that fits his personality!

Dean's probably the more blood/guts/explosions kind of guy.

Very relieved you turned the job down.

Whilst the work you are doing at your parent's new home is not a holiday, they are handy to have. I remember how a family friend wallpapered my bedroom when I was a teenager ... a total disaster. Corners are not round :)

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, the idiots who'd had the house last papered the walls much like that - just rounded over the corners instead of doing them properly!

[identity profile] catsdownunder.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Soounds like our 'idiots' must be related :)

[identity profile] bowtrunckle.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I turned the job down, and felt nothing but relief.

Then it was the right decision for sure. :) Way to listen to yourself.

Sam ate! Twice! He put food in his mouth, chewed and swallowed

:D I stared and stared and made sure he swallowed that bite of pretzel. What an event! \o/

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know I made the right decision. Just have to stop myself getting into a funk over the joblessness.

I had to rewatch Sam's eating scenes several times to check that my eyes weren't deceiving me...

[identity profile] ehlwyen.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm very glad you didn't take the job. *shivers* It would be my idea of WORST JOB EVER. Don't worry, your luck will turn up. *hugs*

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2008-10-18 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, hon. That's what I keep telling myself, but it is getting harder and harder to keep the old chin up now.
