can I be dead now?
Combination of streaming cold (the second in less than three weeks) and Inconsiderate Upstairs Neighbour-induced lack of sleep? Complete brain-deadness. Bah. Was so badly woken up that I even went stomping upstairs to bang on his door at 3am to complain about the loud music, but he wouldn't open the door. I know he was there - him and his girlfriend, who was on the phone VERY LOUDLY, because of the loud music, see. And I hammered pretty loudly for about five minutes, but they wouldn't open the door. If it happens again, my next plan is a formal complaint to the landlord. I mean, playing music and whatever during the day and evening is one thing. At 3am? Antisocial. I hate people.
Two episodes in, I'm really liking Bionic Woman so far. The characters are engaging, and interact with one another on all kinds of different levels, with plenty of tension and conflict to keep things interesting. The good guys seem to be highly morally ambiguous, which allows for a lot of plot and character movement. And I do enjoy a strong sibling dynamic, so the set-up with Jaime and her sister is promising - lots of juicy conflict and development to be explored there, methinks. Jae and Sarah are shaping up to be a nicely intriguing and interesting sub-plot - I'm looking forward to finding out a little more about exactly who they are (personality and background, I mean) and what happened to Sarah to send her crazy, how she survived, what her agenda now is, etc. There seem to be a lot of layers of intrigue building up in the show already, which is very promising - as long as it doesn't get too complex. We need to be able to follow proceedings as they go, as well as being able to look back later and go 'Ohh!'
My main concern at the moment is the plotting - the logic doesn't always follow, and can be downright confusing at times. The apparent good guys, as I said, are well and truly morally ambiguous, and it really isn't clear who the 'bad guys' are that they are working against, which makes everything very murky. Maybe the vagueness is deliberate, leaving viewers in much the same boat as Jaime, who is embarking on a steep learning curve. But I do like to be able to rationalise and understand the plot, and don't always so far.
Was a bit surprised that Jaime's boyfriend Will actually died, since they seemed to be implying at the end of the pilot that he wasn't that badly hurt and would pull through, brushing it off as just a shoulder wound. Killing him off, of course, not only removes the genius behind Jaime's bionic-ness, but also provides her with all kinds of emotional turmoil.
I'm finding the timeline a bit hard to follow, as well. Like...when Jaime's trainer (whose name I forget - Isaiah Washington's character) heard that she'd been sent to Paradise to investigate with Ruth, he was surprised because she'd only been with them for three days. Now, Jaime watched a news report about Paradise being isolated before she went to the agency and agreed to sign up. Three days training, then off on this first mission, right? Except that when she and Ruth discovered that one survivor, it was heavily implied that the entire massacre of the town had taken place just that day, which was why the girl knew nothing of it. So...that was very wonky timing, which threw me a bit.
On the whole, though, I'm really enjoying the show so far.
