(no subject)
One of my pet hates in work - and I'll admit that I have rather a lot of them - is answering the phone only for the person at the other end to say with suspicion, "Who's speaking?" I react with gobsmacked indignation every time. "You phoned me!"
Bah. *G*
Have just splashed out on a couple of football tickets each for Small and myself to see Wales' next couple of home games, in March and June. £49 for four tickets to see internationals. Not bad at all.

"What number did you call??"
I can instantly think of several snippy replies to "Who are YOU?", but I'm not gainfully employed and wouldn't lose my job if I followed first impulses ;-) :
~~ "Gosh, don't you know? I was hoping you could tell me!"
~~ "Hold on a second while I read my nametag again...."
~~ "If you don't know my name, why did you call me?"
... and so on. (Best you don't hire me to answer your phones, 'kay? [Snerk snerk guffaw!] )
Re: "What number did you call??"
I don't think I'm much better on the phones, to be honest. I try to be polite when I actually have someone on the line (although I am at times reduced to speechlessness) but when the phone first rings I sit there cursing at it...*G*
