how many cups of tea is reasonable in one morning?

Okay, and in today's exciting update, the Scene of Crime officer has just been and gone. He was very thorough, fingerprinting any surface that might have been touched and taking a footprint off the door panel that was kicked in.

Does it say anything about my view toward modern policing and crime levels that I feel mildly surprised about them actually trying to solve the crime? I don't know why I expected to be simply brushed aside as one of those unfortunate, unsolvable things.

The man I spoke to about insurance was lovely, ever so sympathetic and helpful, arranged to have the money transferred to my bank account by the end of the day and told me to phone back if I thought of anything else they could help me with. I was dead impressed by him.

Managed a few hours of sleep last night, which was good. Phoned Boss this morning to explain about not going into work, and she was all sympathy and told me to stay home tomorrow as well if I need to. Me sounding all wobbly on the phone probably contributed to that - I'm okay as long as I'm doing other things, but then if I have to speak to anyone I start wobbling again. I hope that wears off soon.

I'll probably have to go in tomorrow anyway. It is the monthly Drop-In for volunteers, so a staff member really ought to be there. Plus it will be the first day back for my learning disabled Wednesday volunteer, and I need to be there for her.

Am now just waiting for landlord to get his lads around to fix the door properly so I can clean up.

Everyone has been lovely. Huge hugs and kisses to everyone on my friends list for being so sweet and supportive.

*hugs* Jo, hope that it gets better, I remember when our car was broken into and they stole our CD player and some special edition CDs. I know it's not the same as someone intruding in the place where you live, but the thought of someone else so thoughtlesly helping themselves to my property made me feel sick to the stomach for weeks.

How many cups of tea have you had?!

Glad it's being sorted quickly. *more hugs*

Have been drinking tea all morning...it is soothing.

Maintainance man has been to measure up my door now, but says it probably won't be fixed today because of blah blah. But it will be done as quickly as they can manage.

*hugs* back because I need it right now!

I'm stupidly glad the the police were halfway reasonable (but I'm biased *g*). From stuff I've heard coming out of the UK lately, though, they really are taking the idea of 'proximity policing' seriously, i.e. actually caring about people and victims of theft, etc. It's a tricky balance, of course - trying to fight major, serious crime and be there for the locals, and particularly with the usual lack of resources and/or training.

Oooo soapbox. *Gets down from it*.

But yeah... I can imagine the 'wobbly' all too well. Lots more hugs :)

Oh, I can't fault the police. They were lovely. Just wish they hadn't had to be...

Oh dear Jo - just read your previous post, and I'm not surprised to hear you're feeling wobbly - that's just so awful to come home to. I do hope you'll be feeling secure again soon, and that the police catch the nasty so-and-so's and they get what they deserve. *hugs*

Thanks. Feeling a bit calmer tonight.

I haven't been supportive yet, but if I had known about it before, I would've been.

I never experienced buglary, but I could immagine the feeling it leaves one with. Was it "only" jewelry the burglar stole?

- I hope you'll get through this, and get back to somewhat of a normal rutine after this is dealt with. And that the burglar gets bitchslapped multiple times. By some big, lesbain police officer named Bertha.

Thanks, honey. *hugs*

Not just jewellery, no. They got my shiny new recordable DVD player! But I'm crosser about the jewellery and mess, because the DVD was new and obvious, but the jewellery wasn't worth much and was mine!

I'm glad insurance and police are both being as helpful as possible. One would hope that the fact that others were burgled might help with the case - and, in fact, ensure that there *is* a case. Who knows? Maybe they'll even turn up some of your stuff in a pawn shop or something.

Glad you got some sleep!

There was a police car sitting outside the flat when I went out this afternoon, the officers just sitting in it keeping an eye on the street. I suspect two burglaries in one night has motivated them to keep up a visible presence for a wee while.

Fingers crossed they catch the bastards, but I doubt I'll get any of my stuff back :(

Thanks again.
