Hallo. :) I often think I should make more of a conscious effort to capture all the little anecdotes I hear whenever the older generation get together to talk about the past - it's social history, after all! *G*

My grandmother died in childbirth. She had that rhesus negative blood factor thingy and she and the baby both died (it's one of the reasons my mum is so squeamish about blood and childbirth - the last she saw of her mother was her haemorrhaging as she was rushed off to hospital). Normally in those circumstances the baby would be tucked into the coffin down at the mother's feet, but my granddad, who was absolutely devastated and had a complete breakdown shortly afterward (hence why he took Mum home to live with his parents), put himself into debt to pay for a special coffin that was wider than normal, so that his wife could be buried with the baby in her arms. It really mattered to him.
