Maiden name would be nice - would make some kind of sense, at least...but his mother's name was Thomas. He named his daughter Blanche, so maybe they just had a thing for French-ish names. But yeah, the whole Deveraux-Orlando-Alvin-Zana string are really unusual names for the 1840s-50s!
