I haven't finished it yet - and I am enjoying it as usual - but the Laundromat part - when my family lived at an apartment, we used one to do all our washing, and my whole family pronounced it as "laundry-mat" too, so maybe it's a US/UK thing? Or just my lazy family pronunciation, I dunno.
