"We both want the same thing, here."

Better late than never, no? I know I already said this once, but I'll say it again: I did finish this recap before downloading and watching the season finale, thus maintaining the integrity of my no-hindsight policy for currently airing episodes. I held off posting until now, because I figured we were all too wiped out by the finale to care. Probably we still are, but here it is anyway.

The Great, the Good, and the NigglesomeTime Is On My Side – 30 pages in which I rabbit on and on about compacted storyline development and the impact of the writer's strike, war, desperation and ever-growing ruthlessness, the screwing up of the show's timeline and how to rationalise, why Dean is such a big damn hero, the transformation in Sam brought about by hope, the joy of brotherliness, Sam's underhandedness and clouded judgement, parallels with episodes past, role reversal, how Dean has reached the point of being able to walk out on Sam for the first time ever, the pain of separation when pursuing the same goal, the realities of the hunting lifestyle and grimness of the future prospects of anyone who pursues it, Sam's heroism, understanding Bela too late to appreciate her, the advantages of hindsight, why Dean and Bela are the antithesis of one another, why Benton's version of immortality is so abhorrent to Dean, and demonic deals and power dynamics. Among other things.

Recap for the finale won't take as long as this one, I promise. It practically writes itself!
