One thing that I loved/freaked me out was that Pride demon knowing who Sam was his calling Sam "the prodigy, the boy king." What the heck kinda power does Sam have, that he would have demons like the 7 Deadly Sins bowing to him if the YED's plan had worked? And does he even still have it anymore? I'm assuming that if the YED's plans had all worked out the way he intended, Sam would have unlocked all kinds of powers, just as Ava and Jake managed to in AHBL. The YED told Jake that he and his family would be royalty in the new Age of the Demon he was planning to usher in. With the YED gone, it didn't actually surprise me that the newly released demons would know about the plan and who Sam was, but what's interesting is that they feel completely unfettered by it. Makes sense, demons being demons. The YED must have been pretty high level to be able to command then, but with him gone, they are just free, with no demands beyond their own desires, it seems.
What will become of Sam's powers - or lack thereof, since he's never had any desire whatsoever to develop them beyond those intermitten visions - will be interesting to find out!
Some of my favorite moments: Dean "comforting the woman" and then asking Sam what HE'S doing, and Sam being all. "Workin'. Dead body." I wasn't so crazy about Dean's coughing fit and his bringing up the deal, but it was done in such a gentle, Dean way that it wasn't so bad. Hee. Sam has never quite managed to grasp that Dean can indulge himself and still be working a job at the same time. He falls for it every time, without fail, which I tend to think is half the reason Dean does it. I did think Dean was being pretty harsh in that scene, rubbing his fate in like that. What happened wasn't Sam's fault, and Dean knows from experience how it feels to be on the receiving end. But like I said, I came to the conclusion, since he mentioned the one year thing so often, that he was doing it deliberately - throwing the heat off himself by being the one to talk about it all the time. Trying to drive it home that it's real, it's happening, get used to it. Being cruel to be kind: he wants Sam to be able to accept what is going to happen.
That's how I'm reading it for now, anyway. Repeat viewings and future episodes could change everything!
I LOVED the title screen too; I already have screencaps of it saved. I'm glad that they kept the actual "Supernatural" part the way it's always been. I don't know what it's called, but that jumping around is awesome. I love so much that they change the title card every season, and it's always so beautifully in keeping with the theme of the season. First season just the spectral static, second season fire, third season demon smoke and devil's trap. Awesome!
Damn, so much to say, so little time for recapping!
