meet!

I had an absolutely fabulous day out yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] bagpuss1966 and [livejournal.com profile] welshdreamer. We try to get together every year, but thanks to the demands of Life it has been rather more like 18 months since our last meet - that time we went to the Gower, this time we went in the opposite direction and met up in Bath. After a chilly start, it turned out to be the perfect spring day - bright, warm and sunny - and we spent the bulk of it at the American Museum in Britain, which is housed at the gorgeous Claverton Manor.

The view from the house and grounds is absolutely stunning

And the displays were really interesting, like this covered wagon rather incongruously nestled against the front wall of the house

To say nothing of the carefully recreated period rooms

Our main reason for visiting the museum was the Textile Room, featuring a large collection of American quilts - of especial interest to Gaynor, who is a quilter herself. I have to say, though, that my personal favourite was the large box of dressing up clothes! We had tremendous fun pretending to be pilgrims boarding the Mayflower...

(here we have Janet and Gaynor and then me and Gaynor)

After spending a few hours at the museum, we still had a bit of time before we needed to be making tracks, so went for a wander around Bath. We paid a flying visit to the Pump Rooms for a quick peek at the Roman Baths

And also stopped off at Bath Abbey, which is absolutely stunning

View along the River Avon at the weir

And a bridge whose name I forget, with shops running along its entire length

All in all, we had a brilliant day out and it was great to see each other again!
