Christmas was nice and peaceful and relaxing, spent mostly up at my parents' place (just the family for the most part although Mum's stepbrother Robert popped in for a bit), as was Boxing Day, when we were joined by my Nan (Mum's stepmother) and Auntie Margie (Mum's stepmother's first husband's half-sister). Boxing Day also brought sad news, however, as we heard that one of the senior members of our church has passed away - Haddon was over 80 now but had been in perfect health, he and his wife Joan just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago and we had a big party at the church for them. Such a lovely couple and Haddon was the dearest, sweetest old man you could ever hope to meet, always smiling and always cheerful. He is going to be sorely missed and my heart goes out to Joan, who is a darling, not to mention rather frail, and will be lost without him. At least they had a last happy Christmas together. It looks as if he had a stroke in his sleep early Boxing Day morning; he was rushed to hospital first thing when Joan couldn't wake him, and died a short time later. I suppose if you're going to go, that's the way to do it. RIP, Haddon. :(

On a more cheerful note, I had Chel staying with me a lot over Christmas - we spent the days in her house and the nights in mine! And we watched a lot of telly together, which was entertaining, to say the least. On Christmas Eve, Corrie had a carol service as part of the storyline, prompting the following conversation.
Chel: Why are they singing Jesus songs?
Me: It's a carol concert.
Chel: But why are they singing Jesus songs?
Me: Because it's a carol concert. They're singing Christmas carols.
Chel: But why Jesus songs?
Me: Because they're carols. For Christmas. You know, because Christmas is about Jesus. You've been in Sunday School for 14 years, you know this.
Chel: But why...?
Me: *headdesk*

Then came Christmas Day and the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special. John Barrowman kicked off proceedings, and as he lifted his dance partner for the first time, the following conversation was had.
Chel: He looks a bit uncomfortable. I suppose he's not used to picking up girls.
Me: ROFLMAO
Chel: What's so funny? He looks uncomfortable.
Me: ROFLMAO
Chel: What???
Me: ROFLMAO
Chel: You're weird.

Am now busily tidying the house ready for my sister and her husband, who arrive tomorrow.
